Turning a comeback story into a future vision

Detroit has struggled to reclaim its place as one of America’s great cities. A combination of economic turmoil, mismanagement, and other factors put the Motor City under decades of oversight — culminating in state officials taking control of the city budget after it declared bankruptcy in 2013. Still, determination and grit have begun to turn the tide. Less than a year after bankruptcy, local financial control was restored and the Mayor’s Office has attacked long-standing issues head on while setting the stage for a more sustainable future.
